The first signature terminal for ITC, Melbourne Intermodal Terminal (MIT) will soon be the largest intermodal terminal ever built in Australia. This $400-million open access bonded facility is currently under construction, with operations commencing in October 2025.

MIT is co-located with the industrial and logistics precinct Melbourne Intermodal & Industrial Exchange.

Directly connected to interstate rail links and the Port Rail Shuttle Network, MIT is Melbourne’s closest open-access terminal capable of facilitating double-stacked 1,800 metre trains.

  • Inner terminal with 6 rail sidings (2 standard gauge, 4 dual gauge), serviced by electric-powered rail mounted gantry cranes by Konecranes

  • Outer terminal with 3 rail sidings (2 standard gauge, 1 dual gauge) and approx. 10 hectares of hardstand

  • Over 30 hectares of concrete hardstands — equivalent to approx. 14 MCG fields

  • Wash bay facilities

  • Electric-powered reach stackers by Kalmar

  • Workshops for container repairs and reach stacker servicing 

  • Capability to fumigate containers and apply food-grade sealing to containers

  • Industrial silos for storage of agricultural products

  • Track turnouts connecting to Port Rail Shuttle Network and interstate rail links

  • Direct access to the Hume Highway M31
